Whether sutures reduce the graft laceration caused by interference screw in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction? A biomechanical study in vitro

چکیده

Abstract Background Interference screw is commonly used for graft fixation in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. However, previous studies had reported that the insertion of interference screws significantly caused laceration. The purposes this study were to (1) quantitatively evaluate laceration from one single PEEK screws; and (2) determine whether different types sutures reduced after ACL Methods in-vitro reconstruction model was created using porcine tibias bovine extensor digitorum tendons hind limbs. ends grafts sutured three sutures, including bioabsorbable, Ethibond ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) sutures. Poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) tibial fixation. This divided into five groups ( n = 10 each group): non-fixed group, non-sutured absorbable suture group UHMWPE group. Biomechanical tests performed mode pull-to-failure loading at mm/min. Tensile stiffness (newtons per millimeter), energy absorbed failure (in joules) ultimate load (newtons) recorded analysis. Results All prepared bone specimens showed similar characteristics (length, weight, pre-tension tendons, mineral density) among all P > 0.05). biomechanical demonstrated < (the sutures) did not reduce Conclusions Our suggested approximately 25 % a Suturing (absorbable, decrease by screws.

Interference Screw Cruciate Divergence in Endoscopic Anterior Ligament Reconstruction

Interference screws are commonly used for graft fixation in bonetendon-bone patellar tendon anterior cmciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The clinical significance of graft screw divergence has not been well studied. This report retrospectively reviews our initial experience in 73 consecutive endoscopic (single-incision) ACL reconstructions using interference screw fixation. Femoral divergenc...

Metallic or bioabsorbable interference screw for graft fixation in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction?

BACKGROUND Approximately 100,000 anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions are performed in the USA each year. Interference screw fixation is considered the standard for rigid fixation of the graft and provides higher fixation strength compared with other devices such as staples or buttons. The present study summarizes the latest evidence comparing the effectiveness of the available clas...

Graft Selection in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Advances in surgical technique and rehabilitation have resulted in marked improvement in the outcome of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction over the past 10 years. Most recent series approach a 90% success rate in terms of restoration of knee stability, patient satisfaction, and return to full athletic activity.1 The optimal graft material remains controversial, regardless of the gr...

Optimal graft length for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a biomechanical study in beagles.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a major ligament that helps maintain the stability of the knee joint. Injury to the ACL can be treated by replacing the torn ligament. This study determined the optimal flexor tendon length in the bone tunnel in ACL reconstruction.Autologous ACL reconstruction was performed using a flexor tendon in 54 male beagles, with the graft length in the bone tunnel...

Graft Choices for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

The question of which graft to use for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction continues to be debated at meetings around the world. The overall choice of grafts consists of autografts, allografts, and synthetic grafts. By far the two most commonly used grafts are central third bone-patellar tendon-bone and hamstring tendon, either semitendinosus alone or semitendinosus combined with gr...
